FIGHTING IN HOCKEY

Ok,
Pre season hockey feels more real than the regular season. People are actually fighting, on the ice, for their jobs and defining what their roles are going to be. There are only two sports on earth that allow players to fight and then re-enter the game and continue playing.
Those sports are HOCKEY and LACROSSE, strangely both Canadian?
So I want to re-ignite the debate.
Fighting in hockey.
YES or NO.

As a ref, I say NO fighting. I mean you can fight of course if you choose to, not unlike any other sport, but the issue remains, not whether fighting is allowed (cuz it’s not because it comes with penalties) the issue is Are the penalties stiff enough? And I say no. Make it automatic game misconduct, that increases in length with each occurrence, and yes they would carry over from year to year.
I’m saddened to hear taunts from players and fans who scream “hey Ref, You Suck” when handing out penalties for fighting, which is really dumb, because it cannot be simply overlooked. Believe when I say this, Refs love to watch a good fight as much as the next guy, but it really has no place in the game otherwise it would not be penalized. No player fights to NOT hurt their opponent. An attempt to injure your opponent in any other fashion (except in a clean body check) during the game is deemed to be a match penalty (and suspension).
So Hey Ref, you do NOT suck on this one!
Come on Gary!
You have to let the boys be boyz once in a while don’t you? What place does fisticuffs have in the game of hockey? I’m sure there are people who will tell you that it’s really very importantt to have a good fight once in a while and it actually can shift the momentum of a game.
What do we expect? You gather a bunch of top athletes on ice to chase a puck and score goals in a relatively small space and the next thing you know the gloves are off. Makes some sense, no?

I agree with Gary…..
Fighting is illegal, that’s why it’s called a “major” penalty. It is be definition not a minor infraction. Therefore with the increased penalty time, it is judged as no insignificant matter.
If you want to fight, fine. But you get the boot, just like any other sport. Why is that wrong?
Then let’s go drink beer and swear about the refs who suck!
